Scenario A — The Path Not Taken (2075)

Were the tipping points to have been avoided, coral reefs would still be thriving, and the 300 million people currently displaced by flooding would not have been forced from their homes. The technologies existed. The economic models had been developed. Had political will been mustered, this alternative future would have been within reach.
Scenario B — The Path We Can Still Take (2025)
Emissions are projected to peak by 2030, provided that current policy commitments are honoured. Were carbon pricing to be introduced globally at $150 per tonne, it is estimated that emissions would be reduced by 40% within a decade. Renewable energy capacity is set to double. Were every nation to ratify a binding net-zero agreement, the most catastrophic scenarios could be avoided. The window has not yet closed. It will be — unless we act now.
