4. Reading: The Environmental Crisis

Scientists agree that our planet faces an unprecedented environmental crisis. Global temperatures have already risen by 1.1°C since pre-industrial times, and if we do not take immediate action, they will rise by up to 3°C by 2100.

The consequences are alarming. If sea levels continue to rise, coastal cities like Istanbul, London and New York will face severe flooding. If deforestation carries on at its current rate, the Amazon rainforest will lose half its area within 50 years.

However, there is still hope. If every country committed to net zero emissions, global warming would slow dramatically. We should invest in renewable energy, we must reduce single-use plastics, and we ought to teach the next generation to respect the planet. The choice is ours.
