1. Introduction

Many students dream of studying abroad. When you go to a new country, you meet new people, learn a new culture, and improve your language skills. In this unit you will learn how to introduce yourself, talk about your daily habits, and ask people about their lives.

3. Grammar Focus: Present Simple Tense

We use the Present Simple for habits, routines, and general facts.

  • Positive: I / You / We / They live in Ankara.   He / She / It lives in Ankara.
  • Negative: I do not (don’t) live here.   She does not (doesn’t) live here.
  • Question: Do you live here?   Does she live here?

Spelling rule (3rd person): add -s (work → works), add -es after o, ss, sh, ch, x (go → goes, watch → watches), and change -y to -ies after a consonant (study → studies).

4. Adverbs of Frequency

These adverbs tell us how often something happens. They usually come before the main verb, but after the verb to be.

  • She always studies in the library. (before main verb)
  • I am never late for class. (after the verb to be)
  • We sometimes speak English at home.

Ali: Great! Do you like your dormitory?

Maria: Yes, but I am still getting used to the food.
