4. Reading: The Door That Changed Everything

In the spring of 2003, a 24-year-old software engineer named Emre was standing at a crossroads. He had just been offered two roles: a well-paid, secure position at a large corporation, and a junior role at a three-person startup nobody had heard of. Had he chosen the corporate path, his life would have been comfortable — but predictable. Were it not for the advice of his mentor, who urged him to take the calculated risk, he might never have joined that startup.

The startup was acquired four years later for $80 million. If only more young professionals had the courage to seize such windows of opportunity rather than waiting for the perfect moment, which — as Emre now tells students — never comes. Provided that you do your due diligence and believe in the mission, risk is simply another name for possibility.

It's high time our educational system stopped rewarding conformity and started cultivating the entrepreneurial mindset. Even if every risk does not pay off, the process of taking them builds resilience, judgement and self-knowledge. Supposing you had been offered that same door at 24 — would you have opened it?
