3. Reading: A Cultural Exchange
Last year, I participated in a cultural exchange programme which was organised by our school. I stayed with a host family in Japan for three weeks. It was an experience that completely changed my view of the world.
Japan is a country where people show great respect through bowing. At first, I found it strange — in Turkey, we usually greet people with a handshake. However, I quickly understood that these differences are not wrong, just different.
My host mother, whose English was limited, communicated through gestures and expressions — proving that language is not always necessary. Cultural tolerance and empathy are the bridges that connect people. This experience taught me that diversity is something to celebrate, not fear.
