3. Reading: The Future of Science
Science has changed the world more than anything else in history. Penicillin was discovered by Alexander Fleming in 1928, and since then, millions of lives have been saved. The structure of DNA was identified in 1953, opening the door to modern genetics.
Today, new breakthroughs are being made every day. Vaccines are being developed at record speed. Diseases are being diagnosed using artificial intelligence. In the near future, it is believed that cancer will be cured using personalised gene therapy.
Science also raises ethical questions. If genetic engineering is used to design babies, who decides what is right and wrong? These are questions that scientists, governments and citizens must answer together. One thing is certain: science will continue to shape our world. The question is whether we use it wisely.
